A suspect who was injured in the incident was successfully secured, authorities said.

Little information has been provided by the police and the motive for the shooting is not yet known.

The incident took place at the King Soopers grocery store at around 3:00 p.m. local time. The shop is in Table Mesa in Boulder, a town at the eastern foothills of Rocky Mountain, which is about 45 km northwest of Denver.

Quoting Reuters on Tuesday (23/3), the bloody incident marked the second deadly mass shooting in the US in a week. On Monday last week (15/3), gun violence claimed eight lives, including six Asian women, at three locations in Atlanta and its surroundings. A 21-year-old man was charged with the murder.

The chief of Boulder Police, Maris Herold, said that 10 were killed in the attack on the King Soopers shop.

Police Eric Talley, 51, who Herold said was the first to arrive at the scene of the shooting – 3.2 kilometers from the main campus of the University of Colorado, was also killed in the incident.

Police said an armed suspect, who was arrested, is believed to be the only seriously injured survivor in the deadly incident.

Video footage of scenes previously shown by various TV stations showed a bearded man – and wearing shorts – being led out of the shop in handcuffs. He was then put on a stretcher and put in an ambulance.

The man’s feet appeared to be bleeding from it, making it difficult for him to walk.
