GEALENA — A Court in Russia sentenced government critic Alexei Navalny to 3.5 years in prison. On Tuesday after being found guilty of violating his parole term, but his sentence will be reduced by his previous period of house arrest.
Navalny, one of President Vladimir Putin’s top critics, was arrested on January 17 shortly after arriving from Germany. He has been in Germany since mid-2020 on treatment after being poisoned with the neurotoxin Novichok.
Navalny’s allies are calling on supporters to return to the streets to stage demonstrations against the court’s decision in central Moscow.
Navalny’s attorney said the opposition politician would appeal the verdict.
